There will also be a complementary read-aloud on Soundcloud for this post. This is a commentary on a reading of Psalms 13-16. This is quite a topic of study.

Although the reading itself is short there were some gems for conversation.

Ps. 13: The feeling of being forsaken pushed David to use his reasoning skills. He continues to commune through prayer. He also complains. This is relatable.

Something else that rang true to me was:

“[…] Enlighten my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death;” (V. 3 ). I fixed the meaning for myself as a point of dormancy or ignorance that reaches excessive and unhealthy.

Ps.14:  Folly of the Godless and God’s Triumph

I found this Psalm to be like a list of filed complaints of a serious nature. I wondered, based off the organization, if it was not an effort of the psalmist to draw a night and day distinction between the believers and those who are not in order to be less forsaken.

Ps. 15: The Character of Those Who May Dwell with the Lord

There are expectations for those who may “abide in [His] Tabernacle and dwell in [His]holy hill.” An upright walk is a good summary.

Ps. 16: Hope of the Faithful and the Messiah’s Victory

From this one, I felt the nudge to mind the company I keep. I want to remember: God is my portion. God stabilizes my lot in life. “Yes, I have good inheritance” v. 6.

“You are the portion of my inheritance and my cup.”

Thank you, I say in private prayer to God.
