This was a solid good read on the civil rights movement for young readers. The authors are John Lewis and Andre Aydin, experienced activists. I’d agree with the AI note I read that it’s suitable for middle school children.

It’s not heavy on names or seminal moments but it does cover protests and private life. It leaves much for discussion and perhaps sparks curiosity for research.

It was a between a 4.5-5/5 stars for me. There are 3 in the series.

I’d recommend it as an opener for more classic reads. Everyone should be educated on this period in history and have the kind of discussions this book provokes. No one wants to slip into mistakes of the past and we should recognize in each other when conditions are unjust.
